The world as I remember is characterized by constant change. These changes occur at a rapid pace that it becomes tasking to keep up with. I believe from experience that most of the accelerated growth witnessed today can be attributed to the invention of the computer. Like the planet Earth, the term “computer” has evolved significantly in definition, becoming much more than its original conception. Through this evolution, groundbreaking concepts such as cloud computing, generative AI, computer vision, and data analytics have emerged, shaping the modern world profoundly.
Interestingly, many people do not own physical computers, which raises the question: where do I fit in? Yet, it is almost undeniable that in our daily lives, we interact with computers in some form. These interactions often occur indirectly—whether it’s watching television, where computers are used in creating and broadcasting programs; managing medical records and conducting laboratory tests; or accessing services through bank teller machines and cards. Computers also play a crucial role in controlling the thermostats in our homes, managing rail networks, flights, and bus services, and even assisting law enforcement in maintaining public safety and prosecuting offenders.
Some might argue, “I don’t own a computer, so why should I bother learning about them?” The reality is that computers are deeply embedded in the fabric of modern life, influencing nearly every aspect of how we live, work, and interact with the world. Understanding their role, even at a basic level, empowers us to navigate this ever-evolving landscape with greater awareness and confidence.
The evolution of computing has also expanded the field so dramatically that it’s nearly impossible for one person to master every aspect of it. This diversity, however, is what makes the field so exciting and accessible. I started this blog to share my firsthand experiences in the world of Information Technology (IT), offering insights from my journey so far.
One of the great things about the computing field is the abundance of communities and resources available online. These resources—many of them free—provide invaluable support for anyone looking to succeed, whether through formal education or self-teaching.
